Tonopah is known as the test base for the US Air Force's secret air and weapons project.Now an amateur image of the base is getting attention.Lars Wærstad Tip meThe Tonopah Test Range Airport (TTR) is one of the most infamous in the United States, just beaten by the even more famous Area 51.The airport belongs to the Air Force Command of the US Air Force, and is located remote in the Nevada desert 200 km northwest of Las Vegas.It was here that the testing and development of the mythical fighter F-117 Nighthawk took place in the 70s and 80s.Read also: (+) The Russian terror weapon Flock-93 revealed in MoscowLockheed's Nighthawk was the world's first stealth fighter, and was the subject of enormous secrecy.It flew for the first time in 1981, but the United States denied its existence until 1988. The aircraft were built until 1990, and were in active service until 2008.Nighthawk still takes to the wings from Tonopah, but is far from the only one.It was here that the United States tested Russian warplanes during the Cold War and where the characteristics of the stealth drone RQ-170 Sentinel were fine-tuned.The airport is central to the well-known Red Flag exercises and for testing aircraft and systems that can deliver nuclear weapons.Several secret aircraft and weapons projects are apparently active at the base, and on that occasion an amateur video is now getting attention.The video has been published on YouTube, and shows the outline of an aircraft that is not easily recognizable.Also read: (+) The authorities deny that this aircraft existsThere are over 50 hangars at the base, and with a telephoto lens, the user has snapped a vessel in front of one of these with an open hangar door.It is almost impossible to know which vessel it is, but everything from an F-117 Nighthawk to the upcoming stealth bomber Northrop Grumman B-21 Raider is proposed.The B-21 is a fifth-generation strategic stealth bomber and follows the legendary B-2 Spirit.It is being developed by Northrop Grumman for the US Air Force.The design with a flying wing builds on today's B-2.The details of the B-21 Raider are otherwise very sparse.Read also: The United States has unveiled its next superweaponThe goal of the aircraft is to be able to penetrate even the most advanced air defenses and bomb targets across the globe.The US Secretary of Defense has stated that the B-21 will form the backbone of the country's defense strategy when it comes to the US's future ability to attack and deter opponents.Initially, the US Air Force has allocated $ 80 billion to the program.The first aircraft will be on the wings around 2025. In the long term, the plan is to have 200 such aircraft.
