Saudi Arabia-based Alfanar Construction has been awarded a $175 million contract to build a 380kV substation at Baha and expand existing 380kV substations at Umluj, Al-Wajh, and Yanbu.

The projects will be developed on a lump-sum turnkey basis. The scope of the works will include design, engineering, materials procurement, factory inspection and testing, transport and delivery to site, installation, construction works, testing and commissioning, and other associated works.

Saudi Arabia is investing heavily in upgrading and expanding its transmission and distribution (T&D) infrastructure as it seeks to install significant clean energy capacity over the next decade.

In August 2021, L&T Construction arm of India’s Larsen & Toubro (L&T), was awarded a contract to provide and install a 380kV electrical substation in the Tabuk city area of the northern part of the kingdom.
