Public Health Madison & Dane County Statement on Supreme Court Decision on Abortion Rights | Public Health Madison & Dane County

We at Public Health Madison & Dane County are devastated by the Supreme Court decision to dismantle the constitutional protection of the right to have an abortion.

We believe that access to a full range of equitable and evidence-based reproductive health care, including safe and legal abortion, is necessary for healthy and thriving people, families, and communities. This change in federal law will cause far-reaching harm to Dane County residents. People disproportionately impacted by health disparities will be especially harmed.

Reproductive justice is the right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities. We need reproductive justice for our communities and our county to thrive. We will continue to work for reproductive justice to ensure all people in our county can be as healthy and safe as possible.

Our wide range of services for people who are pregnant or may become pregnant in the future include sexual and reproductive health, maternal and child health, and all-options counseling services. We are working with partners throughout Madison and Dane County to ensure that emerging community needs are addressed in light of this decision. We hope for a future where everyone’s reproductive rights will be protected and honored.

Public Health Services are available to all residents and visitors of Madison and Dane County. Citizenship is not a requirement. We provide services regardless of a person's race, color, gender/gender expression, ability, religion, sexual orientation or place of birth/place of residence.

Working with the community to enhance, protect, and promote the health of the environment and the well being of all people.
