WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. − Kelly Pfledderer asked why is it so difficult to set-up Wi-Fi for homes and businesses.

Pfledderer delivered the answer himself with Haywire, the "next generation of Wi-Fi connectivity."

Haywire is an internet provider that was founded by Pfledderer in 2019. The type of Wi-Fi, "managed Wi-Fi," is a fiber-to-unit internet service provider that supplies internet through pre-installed, fiber-optic equipment to both residential and business properties.

"We bring fiber optic service to buildings and managed Wi-Fi to all apartments (that we service,)" Pfledderer said. "We install hardware in every apartment in the building and all the public spaces. So when you move in... there's a Wi-Fi device there and there's a switch at the bottom you can plug in four ethernet chords to it.

"...When you move in, you don't move into an apartment and call a plumber to turn on the water. Why are we calling internet service providers (to set it up)?"

All management – as part of the "managed Wi-Fi" – is done remotely for the Wi-Fi provided by Haywire.

"We have systems online that are constantly monitoring all of its devices in the home network," Pfledderer said, "and also taking speed tests. So we can assure you that this device is online, it's available. It's getting a gigabit up and down in speed...We test it every night at like 3 a.m. to make sure everything's working."

Customers may be hesitant after reading "monitored 24/7," but Pfledderer ensures that only the speed and connection status of the internet is what the cloud controllers are able to monitor.

The set-up process for Haywire internet comes in a few forms, none of which require an appointment for a representative to physically set it up for the tenant.

"You can fill out a little form online," Pfledderer said. "You can scan the QR code (on the Wi-Fi devices), you can text us, you can call us. You can go to our website. We find a lot of people, they like texting."

Haywire services are currently available in select areas of Indiana, including West Lafayette – such as within the Discovery Park District's home and businesses, like Indie Coffee Roasters – and Indianapolis. Future plans for the company include service-area expansion. Building spaces that offer Haywire services do not require it. Should tenants want to use another provider, they just have to not-activate the services.

"We want to expand in the neighborhoods that we're in," Pfledderer said, "and continue our growth in Indianapolis but probably beyond Indianapolis."

Those interested in finding out if they are eligible to receive Haywire servicing can learn more at www.gohaywire.com.

"We're just laser-focused on the customer experience," Pfledderer said, "in making the sign-up as fast and as easy as possible. Even when you disconnect, we have an online form when you want to cancel service. We don't think that exists anywhere else.

"...It shouldn't be so difficult to start or stop service."
